Subject: Coats of Friendship welcomed as program guest at Rotary Club of Hanover today, Oct 3, 2017

Hi all,

Sharing this great program we had at the Hanover club on 10/3.  Coats of Friendship is Non-Profit aiming to make the world a warmer place through doing things for people in need. Organized and operated by Elementary kids, this group is collecting warm clothing for people in need. In 2015- 85 coats distributed; in 2016- 705 coats were distributed; 2017- aiming to distribute 1000 coats.

Three of the leaders presented to our club about their organization and how they are determined to distribute 1000 coats.  Our club had a mini-coat drive today to help them meet their goal!

Thank you!
Justine

From their online page:
COATS OF FRIENDSHIP started when a boy named Tristan saw a YouTube video about a homeless little boy without a jacket, in 5-degree weather. He had stood on the streets for 2 hours and no one helped him. Finally, another homeless person gave him his jacket and some of his money to buy food or other needs. That made Tristan so sad that he started the coat drive so that everyone could have a jacket.

So we got our first donation of coats in 2015 and hung them throughout two parks in York, PA, so that people who live on the streets, with no jackets, could just walk up and grab a jacket. While we were hanging the jackets, we saw a teenage girl and her mom, who were cold. She said that they just moved from Florida and then they didn’t need jackets in Florida, but they moved to PA and they didn’t have enough money for jackets. So we got her, her family, and her neighbor's jackets. That made us (Lizzie, Troy, Tristan, Emerson, and Joey) so touched, that we are doing it again every year.

So we hope you donate your old unfitting jackets, coats, scarves, mittens, gloves, and hats, and help make a wonderful difference. THANK YOU!
